Tomasz WachowiczTomasz Wachowicz in an associate professor in Department of Operations Research at University of Economics in Katowice (Poland). He graduated from University of Economics in Katowice in 1999 and in December 2004 he defended his PhD thesis in economics entitled: "Quantitative approach in modelling the bilateral business negotiations". In July 2014 he defended his habilitation thesis entitled: "Quantitative methods in supporting the prenegotiation preparation". 

Since 2003, Tomasz Wachowicz has been collaborating with InterNeg Research Centre at Concordia University (Montreal, Canada) which is an international research center leading in a research on internet and international negotiations. In 2003 he was a research fellow at University of Ottawa working in an international project "Electronic negotiation, media and transactions for socio-economic interactions", headed by prof. Gregory Kersten. Since that time his research is focused on negotiation analysis, negotiation support, multiple criteria group decision making and behavioral OR. In 2010 jointly with prof. Kersten he was a leader of international research project "GRIN - Global Research on Inspire Negotiation", which was joined by many other universities, such as: Concordia University (Canada), Vienna University of Technology (Austria), IMC University of Applied Science Krems (Austria), National Sun-Yat Sen University (Taiwan), Fordham University (USA) or University of Economics in Katowice (Poland).

Tomasz Wachowicz has been leading or participating as a principal investigator in six research projects supported by Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education (PMSHE) or Polish National Science Center (PNSC):

  • PNSC (2016/21/B/HS4/01583): "Supporting bilateral negotiations including the effect of heuristic based thinking and cognitive limitations of negotiators"
  • PNSC (2015/17/B/HS4/00941): "Usefulness and Efficacy of Holistic Multiple Criteria Decision Making Methods in Negotiation Support" (2016-2018).
  • PNSC (2011/03/B/HS4/03857): "Modeling and supporting the ill-structured negotiation problems" (2012-2016).
  • PMSHE (N N111 362337): "Designing an electronic negotiation system for supporting all phases of the negotiation process” (2010-2012).
  • PMSHE (N N111 234936): "Preference analysis and decision support for negotiators” (2009-2012).
  • PMSHE (2 H02B 031 25): "Quantitative methods in modelling and supporting bilateral business negotiations” (2003-2005).

He is an author of more than 100 research papers, and two books. He participated in more than 50 scientific conferences, giving keynote speeches twice. Since 2013 he is a member of program committee of international conference on Group Decision and Negotiation, where he coorganizes a stream of sessions entitled: "Preference Analysis and Decision Support in Group Decision and Negotiation". He is a collaborating editor of Group Decision and Negotiation journal and the deputy editor-in-chief of Multiple Criteria Decision Making journal. He has eighteen-year teaching experience in such courses as: operations research, electronic negotiation, negotiation and mediation, multiple criteria decision making, game theory, computer science, decision support systems, artificial intelligence, simulation, project management and project team management. His non-scientific hobbies are hiking, mountain biking, classic music. He speaks fluent English and also German and Spanish at pre-intermediate levels.
